Day 9: Simplify Your Worries

I have a simple philosophy:  Fill what's empty.  Empty what's full.  Scratch where it itches.  ~Alice Roosevelt Longworth

I was talking with my Dad tonight and really do love our conversations around life and relationships. I know this might sound strange, and believe me, for awhile it was. I would shudder and squeal "ewww" whenever he'd mention any potential for a "girlfriend." But now I adore listening to him talk about his experiences in dabbling with love. He's very perceptive in life and has such a simple outlook. Of course he doesn't always explain it simply - he's a talker. Well, we all are. But his perspective is pretty cut and dry. Find out what's important to you and do it. Seek it. Live it.

It's so easy to over-think and over-complicate everything. Sometimes life situations warrant some deep thinking and analyzing. Sometimes it's worth it to spend a lot of time pondering what to do. But most of the time, you don't. What would our lives look like if we could let go of the majority of small stressors in our everyday life? If we could feel comfortable with the decisions we make and not worry so much when all is said and done? How many times do we worry about things we have no ability to change anyway?

So tonight my two big thoughts on life are 1) Come to know what's most important to you and "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff" (sound familiar?) and 2) You only have the power to control yourself - how you act and react to all the external circumstances. So focus simply on that. That which is the only thing you can control, yourself.
